Trivia
- Mitzi Gaynor was the studio's first choice to play Julie, but Fred Astaire personally asked for Leslie Caron.
- Fred Astaire's wife passed away shortly before filming began. Overcome with grief, Astaire begged to be let out of the film but his work ethic and the rememberance how much his wife wanted him to do Daddy Long Legs changed his mind.
- One of Astaire's personal favorites, largely due to the script which, for once, directly addresses the complications inherent in a love affair between a young woman and a man thirty years her senior.
- Premiered on May 4, 1955 in Los Angeles and on May 5, 1955 in New York.
- The fourth movie version of Jean Webster's 1912 novel. An earlier version starred Shirley Temple and was called Curly Top.
- That's really Fred Astaire playing the drums in "That'll Get It When It's Almost Done."
- Astaire posed for all the portraits of his relatives (the previous Jervis Pendletons). The portrait of Jervis Pendleton III was done in the style of Picasso's cubist period by director Jean Negulesco.
- Nominated for three Academy Awards: Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Song, Best Score.
